We are blessed to have so many great farmers markets here in North San Diego County. Due to the consistent sunshine it makes for the perfect year round growing season and thus San Diego County has more small farms than any other county in the nation. This is the main reason that there are farmers markets held daily in neighborhoods throughout the county that specialize in showcasing produce from regional farmers and tasty treats from artisans around the region. When you visit a local farmers market it means you can buy food from the person that grew, caught, made, collected or otherwise fostered its creation right here in the county.
My personal favorite farmers market is in Vista located to the North of the County. It is one of the oldest and more established farmers markets in the county. I like to to buy fresh produce for my family, and check out the stalls that sell prepared food by local artisans who offer their wares fresh on a weekly basis. I can purchase, fish, cheese, bread, nuts, olive oils, jams, pies, cupcakes, and cookies, as well as sauces, salsas, dips, and pickles. There are also fresh flowers and all kinds of interesting plants on offer. I like that you can mingle with locals and talk to the farmers and artisans directly about what they are selling and best of all they often they have free samples to try before you make your purchase so you can be sure what you are buying tastes delicious.
Also the Vista Farmers Market has a really good selection of hot food available, has interesting live cooking demonstrations and really great entertainment which means you can take a break from your shopping and enjoy some scrumptious eats while you listen to live music. The best tip I can give you about this particular market is that if you make your purchases close to the time the market ends you can sometimes get a slight break in the price from the farmers and artisans.
You can visit the Vista Farmers Market every Saturday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the San Diego County Courthouse located at 325 South Melrose Drive, Vista, CA 92081. Listed below are all the other farmers markets that dot North San Diego County.
